We held our first Making Learning Visible session for parents on Saturday, 27 July. It was a very informative session with the whole GGIS community getting together to discuss the first month of school. We received considered and valuable feedback from parents and teachers shared their observations on each student’s growth. We started with a group session with all teachers and parents discussing the year so far and sharing the year end goals for each grade. Minal gave a wonderful overview of how we teach phonics at GGIS. She also shared some hints for parents to help their child at home. Our students then took over the day, leading their parents to their classroom, showing the decorations they had made and sharing their learning portfolio. The students loved sharing their classrooms and were quite happy showing the photographs of the myriad of projects each class had completed so far. They ‘made their learning visible’ to each parent. As I walked through the school that day, I was delighted to hear the feedback from parents that the children wanted to come to school on Saturday and Sunday. We are off to a great start here at GGIS. The school is warm and welcoming, each student and parent feels that they are a part of our learning community. I thank all of the parents who participated in the session. We value your feedback and look forward to more MLV sessions.
